just bought a 90 gallon surf side tank. i am thinking on using a sump system on this but what will i need? the tank isnt drilled. would i be able to put the heater in the sump? i have a 72 gallon corner bowfront now that i just have a fluval 405 and having all that hanging in the tank is kindof ugly. any ideas and pics be awesome

I love those tanks! You'll need some sort of overflow, I've never drilled one so I can't tell you if they're tempered or not, it's easy enough to check though. Otherwise you'll need an over the back which isn't a problem as long as you stick with a good one. You will be able to keep the heater in the sump, as well as a skimmer, and within reason, whatever other equipment you want as space allows. You will still need some pumps for flow in the tank, Tunzes, MaxiMods, Seios, etc... Your needs and budget will dictate those, MaxiMods are a cheap place to start.

BTW, A couple days ago there was a nice LifeReef sump, and 'fuge in the for sale forum. I didn't ask details for what all was included, but it looked like you'd still need an overflow, return pump, and he pictured the skimmer with it but didn't say for sure if it was included...

ok i am lost on what to do here. what will be filtering my water? i am using a fluval 405 now on my 72. i would like to do a filtering system down below where i can put the heater it is a fish only tank so i dont use a skimmer. i prefer not to drill my tank. can i hook 2 fluvals together so i dont have all that hanging in the tank? i will still have the heater in tank though. any pics and ideas would be awesome. also i am getting a 20 gallon maybe this weekend would it be safe to take water from the 72 gallon get a filter running and put my yellow tang in there ? i just dont want him thinking he has a big area all to himself. he is territorial so if i put more fish in there he will mess with them cause they are in his tank. by putting him in a smaller tank then i could possibly get started taking the sand liverock out of the 72 and start putting in the 90. i just need to figure out this filtering sytsem first
