Hey grim, i am now very confused as to how low my tek light fixture should go on my ada tank. the tek fixture is a 4x24 watt fixture with 1uvl super actinic, 2 ati blue+, 1 kz fiji purple. My sand bed is 1inch while the entire tank is 14inches tall with the waterline an inch below the rim. i have sps in the middlearea with a crocea on the bottom. any idea?

Bout 6" up should be good.

Hello again,

Im finaly gettin an ATI powermodule ^^
Just not really sure if i should get the 8*80 or the 10*80.
My tank is 63'' long 27 wide and 24 high

Seems 8x is enough but 10x would be better, not really sure how much better it is as the price is a lot better for sure on the big one

Anyway, could u give me ur opinion on the 8x or 10x (i plan to get stonnies) and then give me advice on wich bulbs to get on that (ATI only as they are given with the fixture)

Thanks :)

I know that for 24 wide its ok with 8x but as i have like 4'' more im not sure it will still be ok, and having 2 more might be cool to play with the colors dont want to waste money but dont want to regret beeing stuck, just cant imagine the benefit or not of it and if its worth the cost

If you want a bunch of clams 10 would be better, otherwise 8 would be good.

Hi Grim..

Its time to change my bulbs again. Which do you think is better.

ATI Blue +
Giesemann Actinic +
Fiji Purple
ATI Blue +
UV 12K Actinic White or ATI AquaBlue Special
ATI Blue +

Aquablue, don't use a Fiji Purple and a Actinic White in a 6 lamp mix unless you are looking for a purple look.

Hi Grimn I have been reading this thread for years so much awesome info but this is my first post in the thread. Im about to buy a new set of bulbs for my 75, I keep SPS and some softies... Here is what I have in mind:

Hey Grim. I am setting up a 40 breeder 36x18x15 high. I have a 6 bulb Tek Light fixture.
I am planning to keep softies ~ LPS in the first 4 months, then add SPS after that time.

The fixture has two switches, the first bulb in the front and the last bulb in the back are on one switch. theother 4 bulbs are in the middle of them. i want to run bulb #1 and bulb #6 for dusk/dawn and the other 4 @ my regular light schedule. For my regular light schedulefor the 4 bulbs i just want a White look with atnic/blue accents with the most PAR I can get.

going for most growth with coloration. What do you suggest for bulbs #1 and 6 combo, and bulbs #2~5.

Thanks

Ok thx, but for the bulbs as said i will have only ATI at first as they are given with the fixture and have to choose 8 of them, if u could help with ATI bulbs only.

Whats a bunch for you, i mean 10 will be better than 8 ofc but its like 350$ more so im not sure its worth it and that i cant avoid trouble if i put the stuff that need more light in the middle and not on the front or rear, am i wrong ?

I dont want to regret my buying but i really dont get if 10 is worth the 350, if in 1 or 2 years i have corals dying or i cant get what i want because of that then yes, if its just that i have to choose the proper place but can still put what i want its ok.

Just dont want to be stuck, if i have to think about how to do it its ok, if its impossible to do after that choice its not and i should get the 10.

(hard to explain and translate so sorry for bad english, i can spend 350$ more but most of the ppl i see are telling me its not worth it and would just be slightly better, and are not even sure it will as my tank is not large enough to really benefit from it.)

I have the following bulb available and would like what combo & order would work best for a 14k look. My fixture is a 24" 4 bulb Tek over a 13" wide & 18" deep SPS tank

1 GE 6500 Daylight
1 Giesemann Aquablue +
2 Giesemann Blue +
1 KZ Fiji Purple

Anyone?

WHat yu have there is good for a 4 lamp. For 5 add a Blue Plus and use a GE 6500K Daylight instead of the Aquablue. For 6 add a Aquablue and Blue Plus to what you have and instead of the Fiji use a UVL Actinic WHite.

Hey Grim, I'm responding to a suggestion you gave me awhile back. I currently have the following setup:

Front
Blue Plus
ATI Aquablue
Fiji Purple
Blue Plus

What should the new bulb order be with a 6 bulb?

For 6 bulbs I really like:

ATI Blue Plus
KZ Fiji Purple
ATI Blue Plus
GE 6500K

Do you guys think the 8 blub ATI powermodule is ok for a 75 gallon sps dominated tank?

A 6 bulb ATI Sunpower would be my choice. 8 bulbs is too many over that tank. Especially the Powermodule.

The Powermodule puts out about 10% more PAR over the Sunpower. I don't think the price difference justifies the cost difference. But if you have the budget then the 6 bulb Powermodule will work great for you on that tank.

If you want acros all the way to the back of the tank and clams out to the very front 10 would be better but I would say for 99% of people with that tank 8 will do.

Get 5 Blue Plus and 3 Aquablues, Just place the Aquablues in the slots where I listed the none blue plus lamps.

Thanks again for your help :)

Can i ask why u dont recommend procolor but FP, i can get a procolor, it wont give any better pink/red ?

Same goes for ATI actinics, wont give that nice fluorescent glow i saw on pics if i get one of them ?

If you can get a Pro Color go for it in place of 1 Aquablue.

I have a 120gallon sps tank with clams. Right now I am running halides and vhos. I am thinking about making the switch to t5. What would be the minimum number of bulbs I could go with. It will be a retro. I was also woundering if you could suggest bulbs and a retro kit. Thank you very much.
