Canister Filter/ Carbon Reactor

Is anybody currently using a Canister filter as a Media reactor. I have read about it. Right now I am just floating media bags of carbon in the return section of my sump. I am wondering if it's worth busting out the old Canister filter.

Yep, I've been using a RENA XP series canister to run carbon for several years now. Works great.

I haven't heard of it being done till now, but I've thought about it. I have an old magnum 350 canister. I would rather use that than buy a new reactor, but I'd like to see how many people use canisters vs. reactors and what thier opinions are.

Just to clarify....

A canister filter basically runs the exact same way as what people use as media reactors...

I have done it for years, keep it clean, no sponge filters, and it is just fine. Carbon, GFO both work well in one.
