how many weeks for a qt

simply enough my first fish have been in qt for two weeks and im wondering how long you guys qt for?

The fingers you can count on one hand will probably do the job, unless you see an issue before then.

4 - 8 weeks depending on how everything looks. If they look good at 4 weeks I would say you are good. If there is any question then wait a couple more weeks. If you want to be completely safe like reeferron then wait for 8 weeks for everything. Granted he gets stuff from the ocean directly.

4-6 weeks is pretty standard. This is because Ich has a life cycle of up to 5 weeks before it dies off.

funny you mention that i am short one digit on one hand. so i wont use that one so it seems like 6 weeks is the general concensus to be safe

Prophylaxis is one of the controversial topics here. I had "observed" my first set of fish, 11 in a 110 gallon. 3 months after the last fish went in, so that's 3 months of "observation" with the fish looking good, they started coming down with Ich. So now I treat all fish with hyposalinity regardless of appearance.

IMO, it is a QT that is improperly set up that stresses and kills fish, not the prophylactic treatment. If you can get your fish through 6 weeks of QT, then you can get them through hyposalinty just as easily.

Sporto0,

I wasn’t thinking when I posted this and I know now why I must be on your ignore list. I forgot that when we have talk in private, that you mentioned that you were in a serious car accident and lost some fingers on your hand. Search the whole site to see if I had said something.

Just need to get that off my chest and hope we can still be friends.

Or one foot if you have lost any fingers. What kind of fish are you QT'ing?

Again sorry!

If I were to add a fish it would go thru a fresh water dip, worm treatment and 6 weeks of observation in hyposalinity.

I have quarantined for 4 weeks and have still had ich outbreaks in the newly added fish after the 4 weeks. Everything gets quarantined for at least 8 weeks and treated with copper and prazi.

Hopefully, there is not ich ich in the DT correct?
