Quietest internal return pump

The pump that I am going to start with in my setup is a little louder than I realized.

I am looking for ideas for internal pumps, that will return somewhere between 1000gph to 1300gph at 6 feet. AND is extremely quiet!

People will suggest the dc pumps but they're still working out the bugs. I suggest a Laguna Max flow 1500. Make sure to get stand for it. 219 $ at socaltropicalfish.com. Cheaper in Amazon but no stand.

What kind of bugs have you heard about with the dc pumps? I've heard good things and have been drooling over the newer line. Tell me before I buy one! LOL

I've already heard about a substantial amount of them dying already. The second generation waveline's will be a lot better according to ************.com. we'll see. The Red Dragon 3 in the other hand is fine German engineering. Pricey though $$$

You can buy the stand separate for the Laguna from socaltropicalfish. Another one for the Laguna 1500, the quietest internal i have used....

For those considering the Laguna 1500, I would strongly recommend considering the new Fluval Sea SP4. It is the same pump with a higher output, stand, barbed fittings, and upgraded bearings. Basically they noticed that the hobbyists were using the Laguna pond pumps and decided to make a version for the aquarium world that would be ready to go right out of the box. And yes, this pump (SP4 and SP6 only) still has the "Smart Pump Technology" that made the Laguna 1500 - 4200 such a great pump.

That is great info Greg. Thanks for sharing. Fluval is Hydor which is Italian correct?

No, Hydor is a separate company.

Fluval and Laguna are branches of Hagen. Hagen's pump motors (at least the ones we are talking about) are made by Askoll in Italy. Askoll pump motors were also used by Royal Exclusive which makes the Red Dragon although he claims that he purchased custom motor blocks direct from Askoll. It's definitely believable since his pumps have 10" cords and Laguna pumps have 20' cords. ATB also used Askoll pumps but here in the US they were modified Laguna pumps and not purchased directly from Askoll. This enabled them to have great customer service because Hagen was really good with ATB regarding the warranty.

I went ahead and ordered the Quiet One pro pump 4000.
Lets hope it works as well as the one I had on my last set up!

So basically you asked a question, got a myriad of good answers, and went with a pump that wasn't mentioned... What was the point in asking the question in the first place?
