Help! Pineapple sponges

So I just came home from working out of town and see that my tank is loaded with pineapple sponges. How do I get rid of? What fish/crab/ etc will eat these?

Where did they come from and how do I prevent in future?

I wouldn't worry about them. They will start to subside in a few weeks/months and are great filter feeders. Sort of unsightly, but more will just pop up if you scrape them out. It's one of the later stages of a new tank settling in. I think I first saw them like.. at 2 months of age of my 55g and they went away except for a few in another month or two. No harm to corals. Consider them a good sign your tank is aging well :)

Agreed, let them be.

I agree that they aren't something to worry about. There is an absolute slim possibility that they could build up enough inside of it to to decrease flow but they are so easy to remove that a tiny bit of effort will get rid of them out of the tube. They are harmless filter feeders and generally go away once they've used up their supply of silica which they use to build their "skeleton".

Yeah my sump has no lights and I have several that have hung around over a year. used to have them in the bottom of my locline nozzles but they always die.
