First attempt and raising baby snowflakes.

So here we go again. Hopefully I can get this correct this time. She just laid her eggs again so wish me luck.

Fry should be hatching tonight. I also received my rotifer sieves today and they work pretty well. I'm getting antsy waiting for them to hatch!

Here's a picture of the sieves I ordered.

I got about 25-30 fry. I tried to move the pot with the eggs from my main tank to my fry tank but most didn't survive. I think it's easier to just use the turkey baster to remove them once they hatch. I had a better survival ratio when I tried it that way the first time.

I have 3 cultures of rotifers this time so if for some strange reason one crashes I have another. I actually got a video of them hatching but I can't post a video on here for some reason.

My salinity is at 1.025/1.026 and my temp in my fry tank is at 80 but my temp in my main tank is 79

How are you aerating the eggs? I wasn't using enough air at first but once I turned it up a bit I can hatch just about all the eggs.

I'm using an aerator with 2 ports. I connected a 2 inch round airstone to it and have it turned down some so it's not too powerful. I also have a filter sponge over it to disperse it a little.

Well on day 3 all my fry have died. I made sure they were well feed with rotifers but still no success. I know next batch I'll use the turkey baster approach again and hopefully have a much better turnout. Any suggestions anyone can give for me to be successful at this would be greatly appreciated.

Are you tinting the water, it doesn't look like it in your pic? Also what size tank are you using and how much are you filling it?

well if you want to try this you may have better luck.
get your larva tank going with parents water on day 7 ,put in your rotifiers. tint the water green, set temp.on day 8 put your eggs in tank .black out tank completely.
keep sides black for 7 days, first 3 days use dim lighting ,leave lighting on day and night.
keep adding algae for 14 days
on day 2 starting lowering the salinity to 1.020
with this method im basically making a culture in the larva tank and not having to add rotifiers and wondering if there getting enough food

I'm using a 5 gallon tank and I didn't tint my water green with my RG Complete because I was feeding them and I was always checking and could see the rotifers swimming around in the tank. So i know they had food and I didn't wanna spike an ammonia level by loading it with RG Complete.

Thanks for the input vic. I'll definitely try your method and see what happens. I use my main tank water to fill my 5 gallon so I know it was the same levels and consistency. Not sure if moving them from main tank to the small tank is what caused most of them to not hatch..

She's laying her babies once again! She's like clock work. She lays three days after her eggs hatch.

Hey swiss just noticed your from mississauga.... I have family and friends there and in Burlington. Small world I guess!

A unique benefit of RGCompelte is the addition of Cloram-X for ammonia control. Rotifers should always have food... using greenwater in the larval tank is a must, otherwise your rotifers are emptying their guts and aren't delivering the required nutrition.

I'll definitely tint my water this time and I'll just transfer the pot on day 8. I'm doing good so far as far as keeping my rotifer culture up and running. I actually split my culture this time so I have two cultures going. I hope i can get this batch going so I can get my breeding tank set up. I'm trying to get this down pat before I set it up. Wanna make sure I can succeed before I go buy more expensive clownfish.
