Vapour1ze's 93g Rimless Cube Build Thread

Couple SPS frags I picked up yesterday...

-Green Slimer & Purple Polyp Birdnest (Correct? Yellow Body / Purple Polyps)

Not doubting you or anything, but how did you cycle the tank with dry rock in less than a week? Even with a bacterial additive like Dr. Tim's, 6-7 days is kind of unusual. You did do at least two full doses of pure ammonia, correct?

Yes, & Dr. Tims yes, and yes to the ammonia... Ammonia spiked for a day, then saw the nitrite, then saw a small trace of nitrate... All levels were 0 for the following 5 days. I have diatoms in the sand and never saw a trace of ammonia again. My LFS (ReefWise) superior superior superior selection, provided me with small portion of LR, LS, and Water for a seed, as well as the recommendation of Dr. Tim's which was a waste I think after adding in some LS and LR... But it is cycled, yes.

Dr. Tim's is pretty amazing.

I've been feeding every two days with Rod's. Even before the 15% water change yesterday, not one sign of Nitrite / Ammonia.

Pretty impressive.

I've even fed the nem a raw shrimp, without a trace of Ammonia. I'm cycled.

Great build there and I have very much enjoyed it. I have a question. how far below the grill do you have the secondary drain, Are you getting any splashing from the wave makers?

I'm only using one drain, durso style... It keeps up no problem, the secondary hole I am using for the return line... Below the grill in the back my waterline is probably 4 inches lower than the display water line, no splashing from the wave makers, it is about 1/2" from the tip top of the tank when the wave is at it's highest. It looks like it could overflow. But it won't. :) Now, if someone turns up my wavemaker, it will overflow with a wave, yes. Making sure the cabinet remains closed! The drain is a bit noisy sometimes because of the wave action, but if I dial down the wave, it is almost silent. It's in the living room, next to my TV, it isn't that bad.

Thanks!

Now I want a new tank! You are Looking good!!!! I love clowns and tangs!

Thank You! :)

did you increase the drain pipe from 1" to 1.5"?
I believe marineland tank especially the cube is only 1"
thanks

Nice Build. I am out in Sandwich, IL and saw that you where looking for some rubble on another thread. If you still need some, let me know. I have some dry rubble that you can have if you still need it.
