Finding a mate

I have an onyx clown that is a male, he is very small but has been living without a mate for about 2 or 3 months. is he a female now, or should i get him a female as a friend

i'd geuss that he's not a female, especially if he's very small, depending on size though, from what i've read it can take a while, to become a female usually being 3" or so, so you could get your self a female and it'd probably work, but again i've never done this before, just read a lot
