List of Captive-Bred Livestock Available to Hobbyists

I bought a bubble tip anemone from liveaquaria and they shipped it to me with almost no water, it made me nervous but its doing great. Sure enough as soon as I got it all the local stores started having them in stock again which I would have preferred.

The 2 clowns I have came from Proaquatix through a local store they are doing great but its funny how their almost a clear difference between the body types of ORA and proaquatix. Im thinking about adding a paid of ORA Naked Clowns those are really cool and not as expensive as the platinum clowns.

Real Reef Rock

Real Reef Rock

It's totally interesting to check out the different sites, even with livestock I'm not interested in.
Thank you so much to everyone posting information.

I recently saw this real reef rock, all purple rock that is man made and cultured but the problem is its 2x the price of the regular live rock so I dont think that many people will be going for it at like $10/lb. Although its sustainable, the sustainable stuff ultimately has got to be close to the same price of the regular fish/coral/rock so that people will buy it. I like those little ORA mandarin gobys but i have to admit i bought the wild caught mandarin for half the price because I couldnt spend almost $50 on the ORA one which was sustainable.

This is a list of many of the captive-bred fish and mobile invertebrates that are currently available. For various reasons, this may not be the complete list, so if you have anything to add to the list, please PM me. Please also note that this is a list of the captive-bred fish that are available, and that there are a number of tank-raised fish that are available, but are not listed here. There are sometimes captive-propagated anemones available other than the three that I listed, but it is very rare to find any other species captive-propagated, and even the ones that I listed can be hard to find.

Pilotfish- Gnathanodon speciosus

Emporer snapper- Lutjanus sebae

Mobile Invertebrates

Bubble-Tipped Anemone- Entacmaea quadricolor
Minature Carpet Anemone- Stichodactyla tapetum
Red Waratah Anemone- Actinia tenebrosa
Queen Conch- Strombus gigas
Fighting Conch- Strombus alatus
Peppermint shrimp- Lysmata wurdemanni (Peppermint shrimp are not yet available, but should be soon. A few months before I wrote this, a wholesaler had some captive-bred peppermint shrimp in grow-out.)
Assorted Snails
Upsidedown Jellyfish- Cassiopea frondosa (The scientific name I give here assumes that the wholesaler uses the same common names as I do. This particular species may or may not be available. If it is not, the most likely alternative would be the Mangrove Upsidedown Jellyfish (Cassiopea xamachana).)

Feel free to post questions, comments, or additions to the list.

Any updates on where to buy captive bred fish? I see ORA and proaquatix are still in business but ORA looks like wholesale only? I didn't see any CB on inland aquatics site. The project dibs website is gone.

I haven't had occasion to this myself yet, but I think if you email both ORA and Sustainable Aquatics they will guide you toward dealers near you. Also Blue Zoo Aquatics has a decently sized list of tank raised (not necessarily captive bred) fish. I'm new in the hobby, just starting out so I haven't actually purchased from any of these places yet, but my plan is to stock only CB/TR when the time comes so I've been doing a lot of reading.

I was thrilled to find that my LFS stocks both ORA and SA :)
