Zoas not eating

So I watched some guy on youtube say he feeds reef roids to the zoas. He adds just a little bit of water to powder so that its thicker and then he sprayed the mix just above the zoa so that it falls directly on the zoa.

I tried the same thing, but the zoas closed up and the food just sat on top of the coral. Is this normal? Any suggestions?

This is normal. Some zoas suck up lots of food, some not at all. Palys seem to respond the most to food. Lots of zoas do eat, but if you have particular types that don't even close up or intake any food at all, then just avoid adding the extra nutrients to the tank and focus on good water parameters. If they do at least close their lashes then they probably are eating at least a bit.

In my tank I have a few species that eat every time and get all puffy, and others that completely reject the same food and dont even close or change shape. Both types of colonies still do well.
