As stated in your article about how abundant thier root systems can be even with juvinile plants, is it possible to prune the roots as well to (to possibly prevent over growth after it's reached a desirable hieght) , or have you found them to be to sensitive for it.

pruning roots is possible but dangerous among folks really not schooled or practiced with horticulture. It really is of little help regardless, as the secondary/capillary roots are the few safe ones to trim, and they are not the problematic ones in confined spaces.

Alas, root trimming is not the answer, my friend.
