Hey Glen! Awesome fixture. I love your DIY approach and your independence from 'mainstream knowledge'. You do what you think is best for you and yours. Thank you for sharing your experience and knowledge!

I'm curious if your fixture saved you money over buying multiple fixtures to provide equivalent light levels. Would you be comfortable sharing and comparing those costs?

Of course it's a lot cheaper in materials only.
But on the other hand you need the knowledge and a lot of time to design and construct the whole thing. Often with trail and error. I have an electronics background so for me this is doable. Not everbody have the knowledge, patience and precision required to construct a complete light fixture. When your don't work secure or do the wrong calculations there may be a fire hazard.
So before you start messing around with electricity you better have basic electric knowledge.

For me the designing and developing things is a nice challenge and the main reason i love this hobby so much.

I have not determined yet.
Sometimes when get bored an have the stuff at home i just build things.

Fat chance i will be using it on my (still to build) ureef/panoramareef

What's the sense of keep corals in the dark?

- When you turn on the light you get a color explosion
- this is the most energy efficient (cheapest) reeftank to maintain (once you managed the technique to keep them alive).

In the past is tried the NPS before in my main display. I went fine for a year and i even had some decent growth with the red menella . It doubled in size. The others had less growth or were slowly shrinking.

The main fault was not enough food and to much light.

Now i decided to eliminate both.
More food, less light! Where else can i create those condition than in the already empty sump.
Now i feed in the sump and after a while the MRP move all the remaining food to the main display for the fish to cleanup.
A win/win case. W

There is some crazy growth of the green acropora formosa.
I can't keep up with prunning. Every time i cut 1 head i get 2-3 in return.

The old DSR1200reef is emptied, cleaned, re-sealed and given a new life. It will be renamed the Treef1200.
In the end the DSR1200reef did 17years without waterchanges. The content (water/lifestock moved to the panoramareef.

I am still surprised that rearranging a tank gives such a great boast of inspiration.
